Swiss landscape

I met with the representative of a local Swiss-themed resort today. To show my enthusiasm for possibly working with them in the future, I painted this landscape (based on 18th/19th century Swiss art) and gave it to them as a gift.

Dogs of Bark City

I decorated this plexiglass dog with ceramic mosaic for the Dogs of Bark City Project, benefiting the Park City Performing Arts Foundation, the Friends of Animals Utah, and the Mountain Trails Foundation. The dog is currently on display at its pet adoption store sponsor, Furburbia until the auction on December 28.

Northwest Recreation Center

The teenagers in my Mural and Mosaic class and I created this 7-foot tall mosaic for Northwest Recreation Center. The class was made possible by generous donations from University Neighborhood Partners (provided student scholarships) and Arizona Tile (provided tile for the project).

The year's Chalk Art Festival benefiting the Utah Foster Care Foundation was held at the Gateway Mall in Salt Lake City, UT. The Salt Lake Tribune posted a picture online of my wife Marilee and I working on our addition to the festival.

This is part of a large mural I am working on for a children's store called That's My Room at 2226 S 700 E in Salt Lake City, UT. The mural is scheduled to be completed by May 30th when the store will celebrate its first anniversary.

Ronald McDonald House Mural

Last Fall session I directed a mural making class at YouthCity Liberty Park. We created a 4 by 8 foot mural for the Ronald McDonald House of Salt Lake City, which will be installed soon in one of the parents' bedrooms there.

The Christmas Box House

Here is a set of murals that I recently designed for a new bike path/playground that was donated by Basic Research to the Christmas Box House in Salt Lake County, UT. The Christmas Box House is a residential facility for youth who are in state custody and are waiting to be placed in foster care.

Thanks go out to volunteers from Salt Lake Realtors Association, W Talent, University of Utah, LDS Young Women groups, the staff of Christmas Box International, and all others who painted. Special thanks to Sherri Engar of Christmas Box International for excellent work coordinating the project.

Hacienda Healthcare

In April 2008 I worked with students in my art classes at Mountain Ridge High School to create a 5 foot by 24 foot painted tile mural for Hacienda Healthcare Skilled Nursing Facility in Phoenix.

Boys and Girls Club

In Spring 2008, I painted a mural about ethnic diversity in the Boys and Girls Club of Midvale, Utah. The result is a painting that reflects aspects of culture that I admire from various cultures (i.e. Brazilian dancing, Indian filmmaking, etc). There is also a search-and-find element to the mural, to help make it more interactive for the youth.

Fire Station

This past Saturday, December 10th was the opening of the new permanent "Fire Station" exhibit at the Children's Museum of Utah, designed and created by myself (of course, with the guidance and assistance of the Children's Museum staff and others).

The local Fire Department came to the exhibit opening on Saturday with their fire trucks to celebrate. (Picture posted with the firefighters' permission)
